Getting started…

Good afternoon, students.

Here are the directions for getting started with the online discussion forum. I want to use this forum widely, that is, for everything from “can we get clarification on this passage/concept?” to critical engagement. I will read and comment regularly. I want everyone to contribute regularly as well, as it is both easy and an important way of carrying philosophical reflection outside the classroom.

You can always access the discussion page through, under “Courses” and the “discussion site” link. The present directions will be the first post, as well, in case you misplace or delete this email.

How to get started: very simple.

1. Go to and click on “Sign Up.”

2. Register a username and password using your college email address. (Do not signup for a blog, unless you want to. Click “just a username, please.”)

Do not worry. This will not result in getting spam email. I promise. Also, please use a username I can identify. Online forum participation is part of your grade/evaluation, so I need to know who you are! First initial and last name is always nice. You can also add a picture-avatar, just to be a huge and loveable nerd.

3. Once you have registered a username and password, email me and let me know, along with your email address. I will officially enter you as an “Author” and then you can begin to post and comment.

Let me know if you have any problems, ok?
